Here is my Favorite Top Ten Marvel Heroes

Don't Look for for Spidey, Cap, Iron Man or Hulk on this list. Although I do like all of them, they are not in my Top Ten. Okay, my uber comic nerdness is about to come out now. Prepare to be enlightened.

Top Ten Marvel Heroes

10) Powerman & Iron Fist http://www.comicvine.com/lukecage/291450/
http://www.comicvine.com/iron-fist/29-1492/ Tie...the buddy book I first read in the 70's & 80's was PM&IF!! Although they started off as second tier characters back in the 70's they have since developed into well established Marvel mainstays. Luke Cage And Daniel Rand had always been street level heroes until recently. Luke was the first to join the Avengers (In the pages of New Avengers, bringing Danny on board later). The first two years of The Immortal Iron Fist has been an excellent read. Highly recommended.

9) Thor http://www.comicvine.com/thor/29-2268/ God of Thunder! I loved mythology ( Greek, Roman, Norse etc. ) as a kid and comics are modern mythology. Walt Simonson run is my favorite.

8) Colossus http://www.comicvine.com/colossus/29-1460/ The X-men's powerhouse with well developed character. They like giving him lots of tragedies. Big Brother type, protector. But people he loves keep dying and he lost the love of his life.

7) Wonder Man http://www.comicvine.com/wonder-man/29-1465/ Another powerful hero. Started as villain ( Masters of Evil ), died then reborn in new energy form years later. Became an Avenger and a reluctant hero that feared dying again...even though he was on Thor levels of power! Overcame his fears after years of storytelling to become a great hero.

6) Rogue http://www.comicvine.com/rogue/29-1446/ Favorite female super hero. Her powers , like so many others, are a gift and a curse. She can absorb powers , abilities and memories with a touch...leaving her "victim" unconscious. That means she can never touch someone she cares for...flesh to flesh. That sucks for the love life.

5) Wolverine http://www.comicvine.com/wolverine/29-1440/ I liked him when he was relatively new and he used to be my favorite hero. Became overused showing up in several titles just to sell and market those comics. Was bored with him for awhile but I still love the character.

4) Captain Marvel ( Mar-Vel ) http://www.comicvine.com/captain-marvel/29-1472/ I read comics for the stories and one of the best was the very first Marvel Graphic Novel: The Death of Captain Marvel. He was a great cosmic powered hero that was key in the defeat of Thanos' first attempt to wipe out the universe in the 70's. Although a super powered alien, his death was a compelling human story as he died of cancer with the greatest heroes and some of his enemies at his death bed. The Skrulls sent an envoy to honor him as a worthy enemy. The greatest super minds ( Reed Richards, Hank Pym, Hank McCoy, Dr Steven Strange and Tony Stark ) try to cure him but fail. Many heroes die only to come back to life later but Marvel never truly brought him back. There's been impostors and children that have taken on the mantle but Mar-Vel is still dead. Nearly 30 years later, this is one of my most memorable comic book moments.

3) The Thing http://www.comicvine.com/thing/29-2114/ My first Marvel hero was Ben Grimm. He was big, tough and strong. Not the strongest like the Hulk, yet he would go toe to toe with best and would never give up and that's what I loved ans admired about him. Human traits and weaknesses in Marvel characters really set them apart from their 60's and 70's DC counterparts. It's not until the late 70's and 80's that DC characters are written more like Marvel's.

2) Silver Surfer http://www.comicvine.com/silver-surfer/29-2502/ I don't like characters just because they can kick everybody else's ass...but Surfer actually can, just about. Easily one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe but he's a pacifist. Jim Starlin had a great run on his book in the 80's and 90's...The same guy wrote for Captain Marvel, Batman ( Death in the Family ), Warlock ( and the Infinity Watch ) and Dreadstar ( his creator owned comic ). And Starlin created and wrote the best Thanos stories.

1) Hawkeye http://www.comicvine.com/clint-barton/29-1475/ http://marvel.com/universe/Hawkeye_%28Clint_Barton%29 Clint Barton kicks ass no matter what anybody says!! I took a liking to him as a kid because in my mind, this was one hero I could actually become. Silly now but I was nine or ten and figured I'd never be super strong, fly or shoot lasers from my eyes. But, I could learn archery, gymnastics and how to fight because Hawkeye was just human, a guy in a funny mask. That's what I like about him. Here he is, just a normal man that fought alongside guys like Thor, Iron Man, Wonderman, Hercules, Captain America etc. The best of the best and he holds his own. Extensively trained with and can fight toe to toe with Captain America. A proven leader ( West Coast Avengers, Thunderbolts ), ally and staunch friend...qualities I liken to myself ( seriously ) or at least strive to. Yeah, Batman's human too and kicks ass but Clint has no money to start with which makes more average joe like. The only Marvel character given JLA membership in 2004's JLA/Avengers crossover!!
